Microsoft is expanding its European investment initiatives with a substantial commitment of $2.1 billion to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure in Spain. Following a meeting with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Brad Smith, Microsoft’s vice chair and president, revealed the company’s plan to fulfill this investment over the next two years.

Smith emphasized that the investment goes beyond merely constructing data centers. Microsoft aims to contribute to the advancement of Spain’s security, development, and digital transformation across government, businesses, and society. This announcement reflects Microsoft’s 37-year dedication to investing in Spain.

Highlighting the company’s longstanding involvement in the country, Smith mentioned a previous investment made in September 2021. During that time, Microsoft announced the establishment of a research and development hub for AI technologies in Barcelona, Spain. Alberto Granados, the president of Microsoft Spain, expressed that this investment showcased Spain’s digital sector talent.
